I’m going to stick my neck out and predict that Cole scores less than 5 goals for Barrow this season. I could be wrong but I’m just starting to feel that his form for us was a flash in the pan.

Cole's first video interview at Barrow

Postby redrobo » Thu Jan 18, 2024 12:12 pm

Doesn't look or sound that happy about the move....OR is he showing signs already of being negative...

I would have expected someone signing for a new club that they would have been more enthusiastic....

His months of sulking and not even breaking sweat was a massive factor in our relegation. We played with 10 men for far too many games.

It looks like its costing him now, :D , If he had a put a shift in when we needed him to we might still be in League One. He would of scored more goals and who knows could be playing Championship football.

No one to blame but himself, can we please move on from this Morecambe Reject now.

Totally agree, and he certainly doesn't warrant another thread.

Will Barrow, who are doing really well, want to build their team around him? If not, will he put a shift in, or sit on the bench, thinking he is too good for League Two? I reckon we probably got the better part of the deal!

Pete wild is one of the best up and coming managers around and I guess if anyone can get inside the complexities of Cole's brain and get the best out of him then he can. No guarantees of course and Barrows problems may start after Mr Wild is inevitably head hunted and moves onto bigger and better things.

He’s only here til the end of the season. If he’s a cryarse we’ll just wrap a bow around him and send him back to the Midlands.

We shall see.

How is it fickle to expect a player to put a shift in?

Indeed. No offence to Barrow but we were talking about Cole going to Bolton or Middlesbrough not too long ago and he’s ended up at Barrow in league 2. Just a bit sad how things turned out for all parties.

I think the Cole situation should be required reading for all talented young aspiring players as a lesson in what can go wrong if you're head isn't straight.

There's no doubt that Cole is highly talented, but as his history shows, he's only been a success at Morecambe. He clearly needs his ego stroked to put the effort in.

Whether his agent has caused this, I don't know, but as we've seen with others, sometimes an agent can really ruin a good player by feeding him all kinds of rubbish about what he's worth, and how important he is, to destabilise him and make him feel undervalued so he doesn't put the effort in anymore.

Clearly someone had Cole's ear in the Summer of 22 to the extent he couldn't be bothered for the first half of the 22/3 season, no doubt grieving that he didn't get a new contract at a huge club on huge money.

Then for the second half of that season, he had one eye on a big transfer in Summer 23 to earn mega bucks and finally started to put some effort in. But even then, Burton can hardly be regarded as a massive step up from where he was!!

I suspect the agent did indeed mess with his head, and he thought he was too big for us. The reason Burton. were the only ones coming knocking is any bigger teams will have been put off by his diva attitude.

The key thing is, he's not a kid, he's almost thirty. A 19 year lad may get another chance, but a senior pro, being a drama queen can seriously disrupt the dressing room. For his sake, I hope he realises he's been a dick, and now focusses on playing football. And if not... oh dear, so sad.

Whilst at Barrow let’s hope he carry’s on being a d**k. Will Burton want to sell him at some point, to get him off the payroll for good and get some poorly spent money back? He has another yr on his contract I believe.

All in the second half of the season, when he suddenly realised he needed to put himself back in the shop window. What a shame he didn't play for us in the first half of the season too.

Exactly. Prior to April he scored a total of 5 (one of which was in the Papa John's Micky Mouse Cup)
April & May he bagged 7 in the last 4 games. That tells the story; his sulking for most of the season a contributing factor to our relegation. Only springing into action when he saw it as a way out.
