Morecambe 1 [Brown] FGR 2 LIVE thread

The Round-Up gang will be going on about how bad the football was under Derek Adams completely ignoring what our home record was prior to Ged taking over.

Quite a few of the wins under Ged have been freak games which could never happen again.

Ged is not a manager and I hope the BOD are reviewing things.

There’s no getting away from the fact that Ged is clueless and needs to go asap!

I’m sick of hearing people say the football is great attacking football, it’s absolutely crap!

If the board want to keep the fans and not undo the progress made over the last 3 years then they need to get rid of Ged and bring in a manager with half a clue about how to manage a football team.

Ged out!

So how are we going to do that with the club in it's current financial situation...our coffers aren't exactly overflowing...

When were they ever full? £1800000 was withdrawn from the club after our first season in L1 and Derek had to build a L1 team on a poor L2 budget. It is amazing how the agenda has changed to make it look like Ged has been hard done to but Derek underperformed

Let's not forget that Ged has accepted two different jobs within 12months at the football club. If things were that bad, why has he done that?

It’s a hard one because the board messed up by giving Ged 18 month, but to be fair after listening to his shambles of an interview yesterday it sounds like he could walk anyway! I’ll be crossing my fingers and toes for Accy to take him off our hands and then we can bring someone in who can motivate the players because clearly Ged can’t!

It's incredible that the Delusional Crew still think that we're in the same situation that we were when Derek joined us previously. They genuinely want the club to spend money sacking a manager, who has a year left on his contract, when we haven't even got the cash to pay HMRC? We're under an EFL embargo, but we don't want to sort that out, we want to pay off a manager.

I know the Delusional Crew are desperate to get Derek back for a third time, but really, we've got better things to spend any loose change that we can find, like on perhaps signing a player or two, getting HMRC off our backs and getting out of the embargo.

You are like a woman, whose boyfriend has dumped her, twice, at the first sign of something more glamorous, then returns when he has nothing else on. It's time to move on, rather than keep craving his attention once more.

[Edit]

A member of the Delusional Crew thought the original simile was "homophobic" and "very offensive". Hopefully now, because it says a "like a woman", it is acceptable? The point still stands. Morecambe have been dumped twice by Derek. He could see the shit show that was coming our way, so he got out. And I don't blame him in the slightest, and unlike some, I take no delight that it hasn't worked out for him. But continually calling for Ged to go, in the forlorn hope that Derek will come riding back on a big white horse again is ridiculous.

Let him go.
Move on.
He has.

I see both sides to this Keith. Derek left on the first occasion probably for more money and he gave the club plenty of warning. He didn't 'dump' us in the middle of the season. On the last occasion he did but it was only after he realised that he still wasn't going to get the finances he'd been promised. On both occasions he'd done an excellent job for us under very difficult circumstances and few managers at our level could have done that. However, the club had little money to spend on a new manager and that is probably the reason they appointed Ged. Ged has nowhere near the experience of management that Derek had and in the circumstances has, I think, done a reasonable job and it's completely unfair to compare Derek and Ged.

I agree with you that there are a fair number on here who will not accept that we are in the sh*t financially and expect miracles. None of us WANT to accept the situation but that's the way it is and the sooner we accept that we are going to struggle to stay in this league (or even survive) the better. Derek is not coming back here even if he is out of work at present.

I'd report your post Keith but our fan media is controlled by you and your super fan buddies so there isn't much point. I'll take your offensive post as a win and wish you a lovely summer.

I read your report and edited the post before I read your reply here. I didn't want to offend you. The point I was again trying to make was again lost on you.

Derek was a great manager for Morecambe, our most successful. I agree. But he's gone. So for goodness sake, try to support the manager that we actually have and recognise the mess the club is in. Derek saw it coming, so jumped ship. Even if Ged was sacked (paid up to 12 months salary, although where you think we'll get that money from, I don't know?) ...do you really think that Derek would come back to this mess?

I hope you, and everyone else reading this, have a lovely summer too. Fingers crossed we get some good news, starting with a new owner, then it will be!

And he was only at Newport County for half a season, like he was at Morecambe for the same duration.

Never really understood this “support the existing playing personnel (including manager) through thick and thin” sort of mentality. The squad have received excellent support at home this season and yet by and large, performances (not just results), have been very disappointing. Everyone knows that effective management of a group of individuals requires successful balancing of carrot and stick. Maybe some of them need a bit of pressure to thrive? Maybe some of them perform better when they are pissed off, an “I’ll show them” sort of mentality. Anyway, whatever, if the current on the field trajectory were to continue, crowds are going to be falling back to the latter days Jimbo sort of level before too long and any savings made on having (or not) the right personnel in the building are going to look like a very false economy. All this nonsense about whether Derek would or would not come back, does anyone actually know why he left second time around? There is a lot of conjecture around that, but unless someone actually knows for sure what straw broke the camels back (maybe only he knows!), it’s just a waste of time discussing it. It can’t surely have been a realisation that we didn’t have any money. We didn’t have any the first time he joined or the second.

Equally, I don't understand this 'trying to drive the manager out' mentality. Ged has another 12 months of his contract, so are people really suggesting that the club somehow find money to pay him off? The club is in a mess. No CEO, no assistant manager, no specialist recruitment officer (whatever his title was) and only one player signed up for next season. Ged had less than a month to rebuild a team in January after losing the spine of it.

If we finish third from bottom or higher next season, I'll be amazed and delighted. But actually, I'll probably just be relieved if we still have a club this time next year.

We need too have a club next year before worrying about anything else

Just ask the Worcester Warriors fans what can happen

If the cost of some sort of payoff is the real concern here, maybe we can appoint a new general manager instead of a CEO and come out of it more or less evens. Or just have a squad of 21 instead of a squad of 22 and have a more versatile group of players.

wondered how long it would take you to say how happy you are to finish 3rd from bottom! Just like the good old days under your hero JB eh? Be grateful we're in league two and shopping at aldi! Now Where's the dog dirty? It's like the last few years never happened it was all a dream, league one, playoffs pah!!

You genuinely can't see the shit-show that is happening off the pitch, again? You really think that things are the same now as they were three years ago? You can't see the difference between the set-up that Derek had at his disposal and what's going on now?

Yeah, you are damn right I'll be happy to be third from bottom next season. That's real ambition the way things are going. If Whittingham goes during the summer, and someone comes in with some cash and stability, THEN I'll expect better.

What do you think we should do? What do you think is a realistic position for us to finish next season?

Totally agree with Keith, the club is on the verge of going bust/out of existence and people still can't see what is happening around them. If we do have a club next season and hopefully still playing in league two, I will be more than happy with finishing 22nd.

People have short memories.

Before Derek, we were regularly just keeping above the drop zone, attendances were falling year on year, sponsorship/advertising/hospitality revenues were falling, etc. Jim may have been a sound bloke but the club was stagnant and declining. The club was selling off land just to finance the losses! Jason/Colin didn't put shedloads of money in - their money was spent on buying the shares from Lemos/Carlos/Abdul/PMG and on repaying loans. Player wages budget only slightly increased when Jason/Colin took over.
