Not offered a contract at this time

Not offered a contract at this time

Postby vvm » Tue Jun 04, 2024 9:06 am

With Derek returning, do we think he might look to resign any of last season's players that have not yet been offered a contract? I think it was interesting our choice of wording in the retained list. We didn't say released, we said "not offered a contract at this time".

Those currently out of contract:

Adam Smith
Jacob Bedeau
Chris Stokes
Max Melbourne
Oscar Threlkeld
Jacob Davenport
Yann Songo’o
Jake Taylor
Brandon Barker
Cammy Smith
Jordy Hiwula
Jordan Slew

Slew and Bedeau would be my picks of the bunch. Also wonder if Rawson, Tutonda, Love and Senior (unlikely) might reconsider after rejecting new contracts during the season.

Some are more likely to return now we have the King in place.

I don't think Senior will be back , probably already signed up somewhere else.

Brendan Barker hardly kicked a ball for us so probably not.

Bedeau could be off to join Judas at St Mirren.

Slew seems to have won over the boo boys and I would like to see him back.

Surely Derek's priority is getting Jordi Hiwula to sign so he can lead the line for us next season,

Jake Taylor's good but too injury prone.

I was quite excited for us signing Barker too, Manchester City graduate and highly talked up by some of the top pros he played against at the time. Made a few appearances in Europe and has generally always played at a higher level than league 2. Unfortunately he never got going for us with the injury but I get the feeling he could have had a similar impact to Gwion if given the chance. Wonder if we might consider taking another punt on him?

I would bring back the following:

Jacob Bedeau
Chris Stokes
Jordan Slew

Faz and Love too if they haven't found a club yet.

I’d bring back:

Bedeau
Songo’o
Slew

Others are not good enough or too injury prone for my liking.

Love (no thankyou) & Bedaux our top earners so doubtful. Slew was playing for pennies so a great squad player for the cost. Senior unfortunately probably long gone, Songo possibly, Faz would be a great addition for his wages. It all comes down to Derek balancing his budget. It’s not as straight forward as ABC

First one to get a new club is a bit of a surprise!
