My original post merely highlights the strange/baseless/crackpot opinion that Ged left because he could not handle the pressure of managing Morecambe FC; as Keith correctly highlights, the manager operated against the backdrop of ongoing uncertainty and late payment of wages (fact!)… and for a large portion of his tenure he did this with limited backroom resources due to illness and alleged betting breaches. Added to this, Brannan had to rebuild a large portion of his squad (not unheard of for a club that has grown increasingly dependant on the loan market) due to parent clubs reneging on season long loan deals (ironically with the then departing Derek Adams proving as the chief beneficiary of such transactions). The consensus at the time on here and elsewhere was that Ged had begun to implement his own style of play, a more expansive game that was entertaining to watch and involved playing from the back taking some risks to draw your opponent out of shape and break quickly; something the majority seemed to be appeased by – yet I now read that this was now seemingly accompanied by ‘keystone cop’ defending and that the exciting wins that it generated were ‘flukey’. Oh my. Give the guy his dues; he deserves more respect than a few people have shown on here given the situation he navigated us through on the pitch.
As others have highlighted, it is clear in my post that I am referencing the fact that once again the playing budget has been agreed late in the day again (although up until very recently, this was actually the least of our worries!), and for the third straight season we are largely recruiting a squad from scratch and on a timeline far behind our competitors. In addition to this we have been unable to offer contracts to players that we wanted to keep, and for some added spice this season, we are in a transfer embargo. Although Rod said on BBC Radio Lancs that this does not directly impact playing recruitment per se… the EFL currently have to agree to contract offers where this would not ordinarily apply, and more pertinently if two teams are in for you with the same contract offer…. who in their right mind is accepting one from a club that has recently been slapped with a points deduction essentially for late payment of wages and one that has debts outstanding to HMRC? Hardly a great endorsement.
Moving on.... I have utmost respect for the board, who have their heart in the right place – but you can argue that in some instances they have been less than transparent e.g. fans attended the AGM which painted a picture drastically different to the one that unravelled a few weeks later with the club handed a points deduction and placed under a transfer embargo; both of which were surely known about at said meeting but not disclosed (we still have no idea when the embargo will be lifted, or precisely why this unpaid VAT situation has arisen).
Whilst the owner is largely at fault for the absolutely shambolic mismanagement of the club – some of Mr Whittinghams counter claims in that the clubs internal financial projections were wildly optimistic, and resulted in Bond Group injecting more cash than was agreed/budgeted, have so far gone unchallenged; he clearly points a finger of mis-management in the boards direction. Obviously, few can believe a word that charlatans mouth (lets not forget, he was banned from being a company director for 12 months after his catastrophic ownership of Worcester Warriors RUFC), but the board would be wise to clarify this assertion if it is unture.

Don't know if this was injuries or just not good enough

I remember a very talented midfield loanee a few seasons ago who was technically very good but struggled in the combative nature of the EFL.
Nothing against loanees in fact they have been in the main excellent but with such a probable very small squad this season I personally feel that this lad (assuming he comes) would be an asset.
Only my opinion....others will disagree.....but what's new....
Had a chat with a club official yesterday who said that all the new signings will be announced after their current contract ends at the end of this month. Players are paid until the end of June in general so their current clubs have to honour their current contract before officially releasing them. Basically it means we do not have to pay any new signings earmarked for our club until their current contract expires. In our current financial situation a logical decision by our BoDs.
