Only watched the second half but that was dreadful. A lot of work to do if we are going to be competitive.

Quite a few 4-1 games today....

Got to be positive :o it's first game of the season.

I remember a 5-0 loss a few seasons ago.

DA knows what we need and will do his utmost to sort it out.

Hopefully new owner(s) IF it happens will increase DAs budget to bring in a couple of Championship loanees especially up front.

I'm not a manager far from it but if Charlie Brown can't get in that 18 I would be worried

Totally agree..... BUT DA doesn't seem to like him judging by his game time last season when DA was manager.

Not even on the bench is bizarre. Presume he's been told he can leave if he finds a club, so Derek can bring another player in?

Final 3rd is very very worrying on the second half display (missed first half). We hung in there but just lacked creating anything in their penalty box. Home form going to be key, we did OK under DA so hopefully we can do the same this season.

The goal was just a speculative shot from outside of the box that was not closed down after an iffy clearance from a cross. Our goalie might have seen it late, shame!

They didn’t do to much so the Walsall fans who think we are relegation fodder better take a look at themselves in the mirror.

They were better than us in most departments. Moore saved us on several occasions.

Pretty dour that. We look a solid enough side but have so little going forwards. Edwards had a real off day which made it painfully clear how little else we have in attack.

With our CFs being the more physical/industrious types, we really need a bit more magic in attacking midfield. Macadams is a tidy player but I’m not sure he really has the creativity to thrive as a 10 under Derek. Tollitt and Slew are good squad players but we’re a bit devoid of real match winning quality beyond Edwards. I actually thought Hope and Angol did half decent jobs putting themselves about a bit and grafting - just need a bit more quality to work off them. Really hope we can magic up some decent attackers on loan from somewhere.

Thought the Harrack experiment failed unfortunately. White was a big plus in midfield when he came on - did well getting about and mopping up trouble. I think we need him or Songo’o doing the dirty work next to Jones, who I thought showed a few bits of quality on the ball to really open up the game and launch moves forward on the odd occasion. Tutonda had a good game, and I thought Stott looked very classy - think we’ve done very well to get him. Hopefully Ray isn’t anything serious as he was very good first half.

Derek summed it up well for me. It was a poor league 2 game, we are missing some magic but look very sound at the back. As has been said, if Edwards is off it and he really was today, we will struggle.

I thought us as fans were poor today. The mood went very negative after 30mins and became quite hostile. The negativity spreads quickly and before you know it the crowd has turned against the team. The big baldy bloke shouting in Stuart Moores at the end of the game is nothing but a disgrace.

Did Edward's play on the right side in first half? I missed it, maybe the player with a bit of class didn’t like playing on the left, where he was before he was taken off.

Getting at the team, get a grip it’s the first game. Players feed off positivity of the live crowd. We are at home next Sat from first whistle to last, what ever happens, not an easy game Gillingham beat Carlisle 4-1, give our players your support.

Edwards played on the left looking to cut in on his right but Walsall knew he was our main threat and doubled up on him. He got to the line once but he is poor on his left foot. When he is on it he is one of the best players in L2 but he looked miles away from it yesterday. I've said it before but I think he is going to give Derek a head ache this season. I wouldn't mind seeing him play through the middle away from home and stretch teams. I was impressed with Hopes runs yesterday but he wasn't good or strong enough on the ball.

Not surprising really. He had a brilliant chance in front of an open net in the Blackburn friendly and was completely asleep when the ball was passed right to his feet, all it needed was a little tap in, but by the time he woke up the opportunity was lost. No good having a bit of ability if you're not aware of what's going on and not thinking about what may be coming. I put him down in the category of basically being good when he wants to be and when things are going his way, but not really participating to bring in other players or trying to create something from nothing. Adams wants the opposite kind of player who will create something from nothing and feed from whatever scraps they can get.

Players don't go from being the next big thing at Chelsea to not getting a kick in L2 for no reason. Clearly a very talented lad with a great pedigree but something must be missing in his attitude. For me, he is a foot too small and a yard too slow.

I wanted the Bradford rumours to be true but sadly I think he will be stuck in the stands all season. It was a mistake giving him a new deal after a couple of goals.

AT the time maybe they were glad for any player to resign,if DA wants to release him would they not have to pay his contract up.

I think quite a lot of players were offered new contracts, but most chose not to sign them. Wasn't it ten players?
