Former Morecambe player linked with Liverpool

Has anyone else seen that former Morecambe player John McMahon has been linked with a move to Liverpool's coaching staff.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/s/shrewsbury/8082606.stm

I'm not sure when he used to play for us, probably in the late 80's/ early 90's, but he was the main reason I'm a Morecambe fan today (I only went to watch them because there was the brother of a Liverpool player playing for them, and that was as close as I ever got to watching Liverpool play. Did me a favour really)

I wonder if we ever tried to get him to come and be a coach for us at any time. He must be fairly good to be linked with Liverpool.

I heard about this the other day and forgot to mention it.

John must have played for us around in the late 80s to 1990 I remember meeting him at one of my first games so I am guessing I would have been about 9 or 10 at the time and like you Fallowfield I was made up because he was Steve's brother.

Indeed, John McMahon signed towards the end of the 1990/91 season by Griff (shortly before Alan Kennedy arrived) Think he stayed with us (and was almost hero worshiped) until around the end of the 1991/92 season. He then ended up at Hyde in 1993/94 and in a game at the Ewen Fields he was sent off after nearly snapping Jim McCluskie in half !!!!!! The Morecambe fans were going ape at McMahon at which point he flashed his two fingers at us and told us in no uncertain terms where to go !!!!! I can still see Lammy ranting and raving now !!!!!

John was a neat footballer, a midfield dynamo who formed part of the smallest midfield trio ever to done a Shrimps shirt in recent times with Jimmy Brown and Steve Horrocks. At times it was like having gnomes against Gulliver, but they could all play a bit!

John McMahon played for us in the Lancashire Junior Cup two weeks after breaking a bone in his foot or leg against Southport. We won. I think it was L James's last game in charge.
