O/T An Idea for pulling crowds to Morecambe (The Town)

Postby Jumping Jack Flash38 » Mon Jun 01, 2009 9:28 pm

I think the Council and the people of Morecambe should show a little bit of initiative. When Susan Boyle recovers, why dont we arrange a Concert for her to perform and sell tickets?
Venue could be The Winter Gardens thus enabling us to get some publicity.
I love Susan Boyle her voice and story moved me to tears.

For a few years now in our household it's been referred to merely as 'Britain's Got Sympathy'.
Is the glass half full or half empty? Mmmm? hard to say - but it does look like there's room for more beer!

Given the amount of people that will flock to hear her sing, surely the first initiative would be to build a bypass road to get them all here?

As for performing at the Winter Gardens, Boyle will have retired long before that re-opens

The Seaside Soul Club, The York Hotel and Smokies all helped to fill Morecambe this last weekend withthe North Lancs Soul Festival.

It was free(all DJ's gave their time for free), and folk from all over the country came to spend in the pubs, B&B's, paper shops, cafes etc etc

And do you know what - not a penny was given by the council to sponsor the event - not bad eh!

Everybody is being so negative but I passionately pertain to the belief of equal opportunity and my close friends who are connected to The Winter Gardens are also belivers in equal opportunity in regard to enabling individuals to make it in life. If we manage to get Susan Boyle to perform at the Winter Gardens we would certainly attract a handsome audiance.
Maybe we could hold a festival on a regualr basis called Morecambes got talent.
We did use to have the marvelous Music Festivals held at The Winter Gardens. I think Evelyn when we ehsure she has full power over Morecambe will explore some of these suggestions.

At the end of the day when Evelyn manages to open the Winter Gardens, and it will be sooner thanyou think,I believe we will have one of the finest theatres in The North West. Evelyn desrves the accoldade of receiving an O.B.E--I believe her name has been put forward-but I am not sure if this is true.

We now need ideas for more crown pullers to The Winter Gardens.

Oh my God! :o

If anyone needs a reason not to vote for said person and party, that is it.

If that is the mentality of the supporters of MBI, then we need to ensure that they dont get this 'power' and that this back door 'council' is abolished ASAP.

Keep dreaming, the general public have actually heard of Susan Boyle so there's not much chance of her appearing in Morecambe until the bubble has burst. Shed Seven are probably free to do any night you're proposing though, give them a ring.

have you seen the state of the winter gardens? it's very unsafe the wood is rotten as hell your feet go through the floors upstairs, and there a bad noticeable smell off damp, a great shame id love to see it reopened its awesome like the something you would see down London

people harp on about saving the dome i say get rid of it, its a eye sore landscape that area, and save over half-million of council tax payers money a year and put that towards the Winter Gardens, maybe the council could ask for help with lottery funding ?

Is the Winter Gardens open?
Is Susan Boyle one of the hottest acts around right now?
Isn't she in demand internationally at the moment?

Hmm, let's think this through... you think someone who is currently in demand everywhere is going to come to Morecambe to sing in a derelict theatre? You're right, if Evelyn can pull that one off, she'll deserve to be an MBI with an MBE!

We did use to have the marvelous Music Festivals held at The Winter Gardens.

I remember the Morecambe Music Festival 1974.
My 1st and only festival.
I won
5 gold medals, 1 bronze and 2 cups. 8-)
The adjudicator was Bridget Espinosa from the very famous Espinosa family who founded the British Ballet Organisation.
I worked for her on and off from 1985 - 1990.
I am still friends with her son Nic Espinosa.
Memories of another day.
I was playing for Middleton and we were away at Milnthorpe in an evening match.
Fred Bland drove me back to the Winter Gardens straight after the match.
I still had mud on my legs when I put on my white tights, ballet boots and tunic.
I literally buttoned up my tunic and I was on stage.
Danced the Gopak (Russian dance) in the National Character section.
I won. 8-)

The Winter Gardens needs to have money spent on it and the reason why it is in such a state is becasue the Council in the past has failed to direct adequate finance towards this Morecambe Treasure.
Poor old Evelyn has been fighting a loosing battle against the authoraties as well as the negativity.
Evelyn is an expert on Torisum as well as local history--she is therefroe more than qualified to be aware of what is good for Morecambe.
She is a mind of information about Poulton and that is why she topped the Vote in The Town Council elections as well as the wel the likely position as Chair of The Town Council or maybe Mayor.
The future of Morecmabe looks good.
Now lets get on with pulling some crowds to out Town.
I stand by with my suggestion
Morecambe has got tallent.

I personally would love to see the Winter Gardens back in full operation as I just about remember going to see some good groups there. Shrewsbury has just had a new multi million pound theatre opened http://www.theatresevern.co.uk/
and they also have some excellent open air concerts (picnic in the park) in the summer followed by fireworks. This year we have Jools Holland on a Friday followed by an 80's night on the Saturday night with The Human League, Belinda Carlisle, Bananarama, Go West, T'Pau etc etc. They are excellent nights with thousands upon thousands attending http://www.theatresevern.co.uk/WhatsOn_ ... &sC=page10

Torisum, isn't that the party that beat the MBI's in the county council seats they went for?

Now lets get on with pulling some crowds to out Town.

Is that on the bypass the MBIs voted against?
