O/T I've had a musical moment

Postby Posh » Tue Aug 26, 2008 12:16 pm

Every now and again I see a band perform a piece of music live or on telly and the hairs stand on end and I can feel a hormonal surge. This is usually followed by swearing and a deep urge to go and see said band immediately. My moments, and there are few, include:

The Smiths - This Charming Man - Top of the Pops
Thousand Yard Stare - Reading Festival - 1990 (?)
The Fall - Bremen Nacht - The Grand, Clapham
Sham 69 - Angels with Dirty Faces - Top of the Pops - 1978
Nirvana - Territorial Pissings - Jonathan Ross Show
Stump - Chips - Glastonbury, 1985

However after an incredibly long absence I've had another. Go to the link, crank up the volume, put it on full screen and hopefully you'll feel the same as I did.

I saw a young band at Kendal Calling called Twisted Wheel, think they are either from Oldham or Manchester. The singer and guitarist had the energy and stage presence of the seventies version of Paul Weller, the lyrics sounded Artic Monkeys influenced. On that performance, i'm sure they are a band heading for the big time, if they can get a bit more originality rather than just becoming another indie guitar band. They are playing at 53 degees in Preston in September.

These moments don't happen much when you become old and cynical, I think the last one occurred the first time I saw British Sea Power at the John Boste Club in Kendal.

Pendulum played at Kendal Calling in 2006, drum and bass, but the kids seemed to like it.

Some pics of Twisted Wheel here.http://www.lakelandecho.co.uk/news/Kend ... 4372815.jp

My daughter remembers them from Kendal.

She also wanted to know why an old fart (exact words used) like me was even looking at the Reading site!

:o :o :o    ;) ;) ;)
