Good lad, but interesting that Grimsby are still offering better terms than us, despite being in the Blue Square. Clearly still not learning that they need to cut their cloth accordingly?

Kenny Arthur the former Accy goalkeeper opted to join Grimsby rather than a return to Stanley.

I suppose it could have been about money.... :?: :?: :?:

PS I see that the header has been changed again.... :? :? :?

looks like Bury have not ruled out Bishop leaving.

Wednesday, 9 June 2010

BURY insist they will get the best deals possible if Ryan Cresswell and Andy Bishop are to leave Gigg Lane.

With Crewe Alexandra and Grimsby Town waiting in the wings, it seems likely that two of Alan Knill’s established first teamers could be leaving for pastures new in the next few weeks.

Out-of-contract Cresswell is on the radar of Railwaymen boss Dario Gardi, and Bishop is a confirmed target of Mariners chief Neil Woods.

But Gigg Lane director Brian Fenton says neither deal is a foregone conclusion.

“With Ryan, we had heard of Crewe’s interest but I know Alan is hoping to talk with him and we’re still hoping he will sign,” he said.

“As far as we’re concerned Andy is a Bury player and will stay that way unless we decide otherwise.

“I’ve heard all the Grimsby talk but as far as I know there hasn’t been a firm offer made.”

Fenton added he expected two of the eight players with outstanding offers on the table to confirm their futures to the Shakers next week.

Reports in Crewe say Gradi has targeted Cresswell to bolster his back four, although because the out-of-contract defender is under 23 years of age, any deal with the Railwaymen would involve a compensation fee.

The 22-year-old, who is also reported to be interesting Rotherham, has spent two years with Bury since being snapped up from Sheffield United. He made 27 starts last season.

Bishop has attracted serious interest from Blundell Park, and may well be in line for a return to the Conference where he enjoyed success as a striker at York City.

Sources at Grimsby claim the club have made a nominal bid – a fact denied by the Shakers – and are also in the process of tying up a deal for former Gigg Lane skipper Paul Scott who was released at the end of last season.

Mariners boss Woods is hoping to complete the deal as quickly as possible, having lost striker Tommy Wright this week to fellow Conference new boys Darlington.

And with former Bury boss Chris Casper as his number two, he is not short of inside knowledge on the 27-year-old who struggled so badly with injury last term.

More like 3 accomplished outfield players with a younger inexperienced 'keeper under the tutorship of Lee jones.

Day off spent waiting for a workman so watched Galway v Bohemians on MSK (SKY433).

Bohemians 20yr old striker Madden looks an interesting prospect.
Out of our range I would think.

Gone to Torquay.

And, Alan, we'd have no problem getting a player away from Bohemian if we really wanted him. Their average gate is about the same as ours and, though they're doing well, the lure of playing in the Football League is a big one.

Linfield are a bigger club and we'd have had Curtis Allen if he hadn't got cold feet about moving across the water. I don't think it was the offer we made him that put him off.

As always, it's not really in Sammy's control (so to speak) as Graham Hodgson is in charge of the actual signing of players, and I'm sure his phone is hotter than usual!!!

As has been said previously, Sammy will have made his list (although that may be altered slightly if, for example, an offer comes in for one of our players, such as WH), and now it's down to who we are able to sign and when.

Interesting one but, apart from a very good spell at Stockport about six years ago, he's been at a lot of clubs not scoring a lot of goals. Worth a look on a trial basis though??

I've mentioned Andy Bond at Barrow, who I think is well worth a look, but here's a few others from lower down the leagues who might be considered.

1. Adam Warlow (Fleetwood Town) - 29 goals last season and Conf North player of the year. Just turned 23.

2. Matt Tubbs (Salisbury City) - Scored 99 goals in 179 appearances for them. No real experience elsewhere but will be up for grabs now Salisbury relegated two leagues at least. 25 years old.

3. Nathaniel Knight-Percival (Histon/Wrexham) - Excellent midfielder who signed for Wrexham on a pre-agreement in early 2010. Should be playing higher than Conference though.
