No but I was talking about "major" signings.

With Barry in goal we only need a junior goalkeeper on the bench who can come on in emergencies such as Barry being injured during a match. If Barry is injured like he was last season the loan system will always allow a decent keeper such as Ben Smith.

I'd be quite happy with three players that are already on trail and we've been linked with

Goalkeeper - Young goalkeeper to play second fiddle - L Walker

Defensive Midfielder - Someone to protect the defence, like Panther did before he was chopped by Sol - A Fleming or J Simpson

Centre Forward - Young striker who can cover the wings, preferably with pace, to rotate with Mullin in the starting lineup and act as impact sub - S Hendrie

I think centre defence seems pretty much covered, Heysham_Shrimp mentioned 5 player's who can play this position, 3 of whom I rate highly. I think right back is more of an issue, as Paul Scott seems to prefer playing in the middle and I'm not the biggest fan of Moss to be honest. I'd like to see a Wilson type wing back for our right side, either on loan or a freebie, who could cover Duffy as right midfield if need be as well. Not sure who, but I think with these four additions Morecambe would look in a very health position for the playoffs again.

I think we are still light in defence and unless we sign someone of quality, we will regret losing Artell, especially as he also contributed with a fair amount of goals. Otherwise I agree with your assessment. Trouble is, that means four new players with less than two weeks to go. Got to find them/secure them and get them up to speed.

I think we've brought Paul Scott in as a centre back mainly, although he may be in a different guise to Artell. Hopefully Haining will play more games, and I rate Parrish particularly against quick strikers and counter attacting opposition. Then Bentley and Drummond could cover injuries/rotation, so I don't see centre back as a huge issue despite the unfortunate loss of Artell.

As three of the four players mentioned (exception being Fleming) are already training and playing with the Morecambe squad, hopefully they've already been persuaded and getting them signed up won't be too much of a stumbling block.

I don't think we've been linked to any full backs this summer, so maybe this isn't seen as too much of a problem with Moss, Parrish and Scott being able to play there, just a luxury signing really if we can find someone of international (U19's at least!) ability such as Wilson to play on the other flank.

Well considering on this site I believe we will sign 3-4 more players before the end of August.

I do believe it will / could be another center back because we only got Will and Jim as a pairing and I know yesterday was put a new pairing in but it would be nice two sign a center half.

I think we need a reserve keep if this is the reserve team of Morecambe or a young player on loan.

A defensive Midfielder not sure yet on this one.

A striker ; I do think this one would be the most difficult one because of what the club are looking two get.

Always liked Jake Simpson so glad that we are looking at him. Think we need at least another 3/4 players to sign.

As it looks like we have 16 plus 3 youth players i would say we need half a dozen, we at the moment, have the smallest squad in the league.

This is why Morecambe are giving players trials and I am sure that closer two the season starting we will have more free players available.

I do think that Morecambe are a attractive club and only got 16 players still sure we will get three - four players and maybe a player on loan .

We will get late signings just like last season

Sammy always plays down the number of signings he needs to make and then goes and signs quite a few.

Last season, he said he'd only add 4 or so faces and ended up brining in more, including Wilson and Haining and I don't believe he ever mentioned the need for players in those positions (LB and CB) in the press.

What I'd like though...

GK - Let's face it, we are not going to improve on Baz so an 18 year old on low wages would do just to sit on the bench. Bring in a loan signing to cover injuries.

Midfielder - Attacking midfielder who can pick a pass.

Striker - Just someone with pace really as we still have none in our front line.

And possibly a centre back. But that would be 4th priority behind the above, IMO.

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528, ... 02,00.html

"Skysports.com understands Morecambe have reached an agreement which will see Andy Fleming join the club.

The 22-year-old midfielder is currently on the books of Wrexham, where he has spent his entire career to date.

He made his senior debut for the Welsh outfit in 2007 and has been a first-team regular for the past two years.

Fleming has also turned out for England C, the side representing the best talent outside of the Football League.

He could, however, be about to make that step up, with Morecambe having agreed a deal with Wrexham.

The Shrimps are looking to piece together a squad capable of taking them into League One, having fallen agonisingly short in 2009/10.

They finished fourth in League Two last season but suffered a 7-2 aggregate defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge in the play-off semi-finals."

Fleming is a great signing and just the kind of player I want to see at the club. Hopefully we'll get a couple more, ideally a striker - Hendrie; a midfield playmaker; and a good quality centre back. However I got a feeling we're going to regret Dave Artell's departure. I've heard rumours about one potential signing and, if true, it would be a big step back from big Dave. We'll see.

For once I'm going to admit that I was probably wrong in an earlier post when i said that I wasn't that fussed about Arts going.

Now, I'm regretting posting that 'cause the nearer we get to KO it looks like we could struggle 'big style' in the centre of defence. On reflection I wonder if behind the scenes the club regret not offering Arts the 2 year contract he was after? What I saw last week of the centre half trialist fills me with dread of what could happen this coming season when it was expected by all that defence would be a priority for strengthening.

One thing for sure we'll never know if the club regret letting Arts go!

He was one of the players you criticised most during games last season tho, Neil :?

Personally i liked Dave, was'nt very quick and did'nt distribute very accurately but his reading of the game, his valuable goalscoring and his leadership skills WILL be missed.

Anyway he's gone now so let's look forward.
